What do I need to get in?

General Admission Requirements

High school graduation, Transfer, or Mature student status

Applicants to all undergraduate programs on campus must qualify under one of the following categories:

  • Graduate from a recognised high school curriculum, or
  • Complete 12 or more credits of transferrable postsecondary coursework, or
  • Be 19 years of age or older with no formal education in the past 2 years (some program restrictions apply).
English language requirements

English is the language of instruction at TRU. Successful applicants require a minimum of 73% in grade 12 English or equivalent for undergraduate degree programs on campus, or 67% for undergraduate diploma and certificate programs on campus.

Missing a general admission requirement? You may still qualify for Flexible Entry. See below.

Program specific admission requirements

In addition to meeting the general admission requirements successful applicants must also meet program-specific admission requirements.

Missing a program-specific admission requirement? You may still qualify for Flexible Entry. See below.

Flexible Entry

Our flexible entry pathway allows students to begin their university program while upgrading or completing missing requirements.

How does Flexible Entry work?
When you apply for a TRU program that is eligible for Flexible Entry, we will assess your application and if you’re missing general or program-specific requirements you may still receive an offer of admission for your selected program through the flexible entry pathway. Once admitted, we will connect you with an Academic Advisor to plan your first year for success! You’ll complete your missing admission requirements while taking university courses in your program, normally within your first 24 to 30 credits.

If you’re seeking to complete a course or two, upgrade undergraduate courses, or just explore what TRU has to offer, this option may be for you. Once you’re admitted you can connect with an Academic Advisor right away and plan your path.

Recognised high school curricula and provincial equivalents

TRU recognises the government legislated secondary school curriculum in all Canadian provinces and territories.

You are considered to have the equivalent of BC high school graduation if you graduated from high school in:

  • Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or Yukon
  • Quebec, and have completed one full academic year at CEGEP

You are also considered to have the equivalent of BC high school graduation if you have completed the International Baccalaureate diploma program.

For program specific provincial admission equivalents, see the equivalency chart.

Alberta students note: TRU takes the blended final mark (diploma and course) for ELA 30-1, and for all other courses, we will take whatever grade is highest—diploma or course.
